[6] pp 1-200 An inscribed First Edition of this account of England's relationship with the British colonies. Inscribed at the top of the title page is: 'W Millar Esq With the Author's Respects'. The book is bound in its original faded brown cloth with the title in gilt on the front board. The binding is marked and stained. The text is complete but the paper is frequently discoloured and foxed. The book is an interesting discussion of the moral and practical responsibilities of a colonising power: 'By the decisive measures of colonization we shall not only add to our country's honour and security, but, sensibly alleviate its misery.' The author appears to have been a published poet and is referred to in the British Library catalogue as Robert Fletcher of Hampstead.
