[mezzotint frontispiece of Joseph Harris playing Cardinal Wolsey in Henry VIII] [2] [iii]-vi, pp 1-28 [1] 31-67, [10] William Johnstone White's study of the extra illustrated copy of Boydell's Shakespeare which was owned by Thomas Wilson. The book is in the original drab paper covered boards with a new card spine and additional modern endpapers. There is some staining to the covers. There is a little browning to the frontispiece portrait of the actor Joseph Harris but otherwise the text is very good and the pages untrimmed. Jaggard's Shakespeare bibliography states that this book was produced in an edition of 25 copies but there is no reference to such a limitation within the book itself. The quality of extra illustration described in this volume seems to have been remarkable and included a frontispiece removed from the first folio: 'Shakspeare, Martin Droeshout, sc. from the folio Edition of his Plays, in 1623, first state - rare.' Not in Bodleian or Cambridge UL.
